It has been a while since I last posted something, so I figured it was time for an update.
Back in January my employer did a corporate reorganization and consolidation. This means than me and fifteen of my friends had our jobs abolished and we were sent on our way. So I’m currently ‘between jobs’. Business is business, but I think they may have made a hasty decision. Oh well. I don’t hold a grudge about it. The future is bright.
During my time off, I’ve been doing some household projects that I’ve been meaning to do. We had a sewer back up late last year, and while ServPro did a great job cleaning up and drying things out, they left about 4″ of drywall cut out of the bottom of the basement walls. I’ve been replacing that drywall, mudding the seams, and painting the rooms affected.
I also rented a U-Haul trailer and emptied out a storage unit I’ve had for about 12 years. I’ve been meaning to do this for the past two years, but didn’t want to take the time, and let’s face it, it is a lot of work with little reward. Well, not having an income means that a $130 a month bill going away is a good thing. That’s a decent reward.
There were many many boxes and furniture to go through. I’ve found my boxes of books, thank goodness. I also found about 20 computers that were old when I stored them, so you can guess that they were no where near current tech. Off to the recycler they went.
Within those boxes was my previous single life. When we got married, I moved my stuff into storage and lived with my wife at her home. In that stuff was all the hand-me-downs a single person survives on. So, I had a lot of nicked and dinged up but still functional furniture. I also found all of the paperwork and left over stuff from my computer business from 20 years ago. It is hard to believe it has been that long, but there you go.
It felt strange recycling a brand new, still in the box, AMD K6 ASUS motherboard. This thing was an excellent board at the time, but 20 years later it has no value. It’s not like people are restoring these old computers. Believe me, I checked on eBay and there is no market for it.
Between the daily job search and the missing income, my time spent on hobbies is at a minimum. This is why there have not been many posts over the past month or so. With luck, I’ll be employed soon and can get back to it. The weather is getting warmer, so outside activities are coming up. It doesn’t cost much to go fishing!
Hopefully I’ll be able to spare a few dollars and work on the boat’s carburetors. I’m pretty sure last year’s issues were due to problems with the floats and/or float valves. Fixing that might require the removal of the carbs from the engine, but I *might* be able to do it in place. We will see.
I’ve also got a several year old 1/8 scale R/C car that I’d really like to get running again. The last time I tried to get it going it would idle, but would cut out the moment I gave it any throttle. Again, some carb work might be in order. We will see. That R/C engine has been out of production for a while and parts might be an issue. I might be able to just clean the varnish out of it really well.
Good grief, I just realized that I didn’t do the aquarium over the winter like I planned. Yeah, that one should be a priority. I already have all the stuff to make it happen
So, there are things coming up, as I have the time. I’ll keep you all posted.
